All thanks are due to Allah. We ask for His help and guidance, and we ask for His forgiveness for any errors we make.

The ease and speed by which information is transmitted today has made our world seem small. All kinds of messages enter our homes every day from the world outside. Few, if any, of these messages are Islamic in spirit. Popular entertainment in North America reflects a culture that is not God-centered. News and current affairs programs often betray a distinct anti-Islamic bias.

How can we, Muslims living in North America, bring more positive images of Islam into our homes? How can we show our children positive alternatives to the un-Islamic culture around them? The answer is simple.

The media outlets that are available to others are also available to us. We can use these outlets to provide accurate information about our religion, both for ourselves and for non-Muslims. A Muslim media outlet could also present an Islamic viewpoint on current religious, social, and political issues.

Objectives

IANA's objective is to establish a radio station that would broadcastboth English and Arabic programs in several large American cities. This radio station would have the following mission:

  • To provide news analysis.
  • To share Islam with non-Muslims. Western society is hungry for spiritual truth, and an Islamic radio station could reach many people who otherwise would never hear the truth about Islam, the religion of peace.
  • To provide accurate information about Islamic beliefs and practices. This would be a crucial service both to new converts and to lifelong Muslims whose practices may have become culturally influenced.
  • To provide children's programming that would show Muslim children the beauty and value of their religious heritage.
  • To strengthen the bond between western Muslims and their brothers and sisters in the Islamic countries of the East, through news features, shared programming, and perhaps dialogues between western and eastern Muslims.
  • To encourage the formation of additional Muslim broadcasting organizations in all media outlets.

Plan

IANA aims, with Allah's permission, to accomplish these objectives in several stages. In each stage the number of broadcast hours and the number of cities receiving the broadcast would be increased. It is also our hope to eventually broadcast beyond the North American boundaries. In addition, we plan to cooperate with international Muslim media outlets by sharing information and broadcast programs.

The first phase of the proposed project will last one year. The aim during this phase will be to broadcast to three American cities and one Canadian city. A four-hour broadcast day is planned, with two hours in English and two hours in Arabic. Advertising will be solicited from both Muslim and non-Muslim companies. However, all advertisements will be subject to strong religious guidelines as outlined by the station's management. In subsequent phases, broadcast time would increase, as would the number of cities receiving the broadcast.

Important Statistics

  • There are approximately seven million Muslims in North America.
  • Nearly 70% of North America's Muslims are located in the following cities:
  • New York
  • Chicago
  • Washington, DC
  • Detroit
  • Houston
  • Los Angeles
  • Toronto
  • Montreal
  • Vancouver
  • The average Muslim family in the United States has at least three radios in the home.
  • Virtually every car in the United States has a radio. (statistic missing) out of 10 people listen to the radio while in their cars.
  • The average American spends 3.5 hours every day watching television or listening to the radio.
  • Approximately 11% of all advertising to reach each American is radio advertising.
  • The cost of an advertisement on an Arabic radio station in a large city is approximately $100 per minute. Each hour of broadcast programming typically includes at least four minutes of advertising. Typical advertising revenue is therefore $400 per on-air hour.
  • The cost of broadcasting one hour ranges from 200 to 300 US dollars. The variance in cost depends on the cities being broadcast to and cost of renting air time.

Technical Information

  • There are more than 12,000 radio stations in the US. Of these, 48% are medium wave (AM) commercial stations, 39% are short wave (FM) commercial stations, and the rest are non-commercial stations.
  • In the United States, AM frequencies range from 535 kHz to 1605 kHz, with a range of 10 kHz between consecutive frequencies. The FM frequencies range from 88MHz to 108 MHz, with the frequencies below 92 MHz reserved for non-commercial broadcasts. This is the range in which Christian, educational, and non-profit organizations broadcast. FM station frequencies are separated by at least 200 kHz.

Your Role

The cost of this project will exceed $500,000. This is the cost of broadcasting four hours of air time, seven days a week, for one year in three American cities.

IANA asks all sincere brothers and sisters to participate in this large project and make it a reality. We all have a duty to spread the truth of Islam. Your donation will help to do just that.Your contributions will assist us in fulfilling  the task of spreading  knowledge and  representing Islam to all non-Muslims.

We ask Allah, the Almighty, the All-Capable, to enable us together to establish this project in the best manner possible.
